Easy HP gains?? For 500 hp

1" 4 hole carb spacer and stub stack??

Will these do anything for my 96 500 hp's? If not, any easy/inexpensive hp gains?? Looking for top end over low end performance as I have twins.

Thanks!

Do a search using "carb spacer" there is some good info from past posts.

I would have to say with that engine the general opinion is that it will not help enough to bother messing with them.

Head work or a head change is the easiest way that I can think of to add power (torque) to that engine package keeping it N/A.

Remember just throwing a spacer on seems like no big deal put you will have to mess with a new fuel line and may even have some clearance issues. The fuel line should be rigid stainless tube from the pump to the carb.
Is it worth a couple of horses?:)

4 Hole tapered 1" carb spacer on top of a 1" open spaer gave me 13.8 HP all the way through the rpm range. Keith Eickert Flame arrestor actually gave me 15 HP over the fancy 10" think K&N!

Hey Houstonprop,
Thanks for your reply. I am running stock 4 blade props. Just had them tuned up and balanced...made a big difference. What are your suggestions?

sell them and buy big CI replacements or add a small Whipple 3-4 lbs boost. They will run all day.

I am sure balancing helped if they were stock ,but I really could not give you a honest answer without looking at least one of the props, then I could really determine if there are some major improvments that could be made to the props. To get you those last few mph that you are looking for ,Pictures are good, but in hand is best,To ship one back and forth is probably 13.00 each way.

Give me a call and I will be glad to talk to you more about them.

My phone is on from 9:00a.m.to 10:00 7 days a week.

Thanks again and talk to you later Darin

boatnick, I think you will gain more by doing prop work, than you will with a carb spacer. If you lab finish the props you should pickup a couple of mph. Now to get optimum performance (Darin) Houston Props will need to know what your boat is, and if you can tell him if it needs more bow lift or more stern lift.
The kind of boat will tell a lot, but every boat is different. Houston Prop is very good and has helped a lot of guy's here gain unbelievable results, so call Darin. I know you spent some money on balancing them, but there is more to be had out of the props and will gain you more for the dollar than the spacer. If you do the spacers, I would be really amazed if you would see more than 1 mph, if that.
Welcome to the board. It's always nice to talk to a new member. There is a lot of good knowledgable people on here. And more information than you can believe.
