I agree with mr. g. I either use my finger & rub where I want to remove the RTV or I take a paper towell or rag & rub it off

methyl ethyl ketone or mek for short.concentrate on silicone ONLY.mek as with acetone will mar a finish if too much is used.very volitile...NO OPEN FLAMES.the advantage of mek over acetone is the evaporation rate of mek is ten times that of acetone :)

Thanks everyone, I am sad to say I ended up ot using any of your replies. The silicone was on the back of the ring so I ended up shaving it down real close with a razor knife. Then there was still a slight film of it on the back of the ring. I found out that this is a great non slip surface! So I put the guage back in and because I Had an oversize hole to begin with this prevents it from moving arround. I have other guages that they tend to loosen up and then slide arround So I just put a film of silicone on these too, waited for them to dry and then installed. It works great as long as the film is not too thick.

They say some of the best inventions are found by mistake! - Thanks agian - Ray
