You would be suprised how your 12 volt battery fluctuates with the loads drawn from it. Unstable voltage regulators ,crummy wires, connections and too small a wire feeding the unit., Oh yes and your voltmeter gauge on the dash will only show long term dips in power like 1/2 second and longer. Your Garmin can see a power dip of say 10 volts for 250 milli seconds and off she goes. Perfectly normal,nothing wrong with unit. Your biggest culprit is your trim pump.It draws a good bit of amps which can dip a battery not fully charged.Take a volt meter and measure your battery at rest. 12.75 =full charge 12.50=3/4 charge 12.25 1/2 empty or full your choice. While running at 1500 rpms or more you should see at least 13.25 volts min.
