O-ring sealant on bravo 1

What sealant works best on the o-rings when reassembling an outdrive. My Seloc manual says 3M sealant part number XXXX. What do you use, if anything.

I'm not sure which ones you are talking about, but on the covers and the drive to bell housing I use contact cement to hold them in place and then liberally coat them with the blue/green gimbal bearing grease

Normally just use grease, but I just tried Goop marine silicone on the outdrive "elk horn" exhaust manifold o-ring. Sure hope it works!!

I just slap some white lithum grease on the o-rings...

Thanks guys. I had some green silicone looking crap all over them. Maybe that is why it was leaking. O rings shouldn't need anything (other than oil/grease) was my opinion, and evidently yours as well.

Oh yeah... Formula31, the top of the back cover's o-ring had a white powdery type substance on it (efervesence?) so I believe that to be my water leak. Thanks for the advise. I think you were right on!

"Hylomar" it's a Permatex product that works great on O-rings and gaskets. I've even used it to repair a rusted/leaking manifold to riser joint.
