Carb Help???
I just purchase a 1999 30' Spectre with 509's putting out around 540hp. The boat has Dominator 4500 series(#8896) 1050cfm 3 circuit carbs which I have come to find out probably are not the right carbs for my application(Unless I want to go broke on fuel and plugs). I guess they are design to run idle to wide open. Very rich in between
Does anyone have experience with these carbs? Anyone know a way to make them work? The guy at Holley said if I get them to run good at midrange they will be lean at wide open. What would be a good carb for my application? Anyone know of a good website to trade carbs? |
Probably 830 or 850 jetted to your motor. HP 500's use a 800

I have a 502ci with 547 hp and i run an 830cfm holly carb with 98 jets, i will check the air bleed size and get back to you.........

Thanks!
What is the Holley part# on your carbs? Are they mechanical or vaccum secondaries? Which is better for boats? I found someone that will trade me for a pair of rebuilt Holley 850 (#4781) Double pumpers. Any thoughts on that carb? Is there any benefit in trying to find the actual Holley MARINE carbs? Dave |
Holley HP830cfm or maybe some HP950cfms will probably be the best. Mechanical secondaries work best on boats. Both come in marine versions.
You should definately use MARINE carbs. Its a safety factor. They are set up with J-tubes and different shaft seals so they won't leak any fuel externally. |
