Trim Pump Conversion
See what I get for trying to be a nice guy:
My nephew buys a new trim pump for his dad's 45hp (1986) Mariner outboard for Christmas. The problem is that a replacement pump was $555. Stern drive pumps are half that much so somehow I volunteered to help him get the stern drive pump to work. The OB pump has what I believe are two smaller high pressure and 2 larger diameter return lines running in parrallel to each hydraulic cylinder. The stern drive pump only has one pressure and one return line at the pump and splits left to right outside the boat. It seems like this should be possible but should I look for a custom made hose with a splitter in it or should I try to find a manifold to connect the twin lines and then go to the pump? Remember the operative word is CHEAP. Thanks, F |
