I used the Mallory one, Everything is built in, kinda like a uni-lite, but has the magnetic pickup instead. I bought mine remanufacured off Ebay, but I think Jegs, or Summitt sells them.

sonic28 01-02-2004 03:22 PM

is it marine?

rchevelle71 01-02-2004 03:32 PM

YUP, get the Blue one, has a screen in the base for spark arresting. I will see if I can find a link.

The Jegs description says "utilizes Hall effect triggering". Is there an option for magnetic triggering?

mallory sounds good any other suggestions?do i use the same coil?

rchevelle71 01-05-2004 09:48 AM

I believe the stock Merc coil will work, I replaced mi dist. because some idiot had put an automotive HEI in there, and I did not have a coil, so I just bought a stock replacement accell coil.

MSD makes a marine distributor with a magnetic pick up, only a little more than the Mallory at Summit

I'm running the Crane Hi6 ignition box with a Crane coil and MSD billit distributor.

The Hi6 is nice because it has the Merc ignition advances programmed into it. Just pick one with the dial. It also has a dial for the built in rev limiter. Adjustable in 100 rpm increments. Easy to use, easy to hook up.

I'll be using the same set up with Crane HI6, coil and MSD distributor.

Seems all so simple.

The Mallory is all self enclosed, just wire it up. Module is inside the distributor. Very easy to install. The only other things you will need is the coil, and I put a ballast resistor on it. Here is the wiring diagram for you.

I used the stock Merc Coil mount, if you dont have one, you can just get one from Jegs/summitt or someone like that, and mount it on one of the intake bolts. Unless you plan on using the newer flat type coil, you will have to find another location.
