Rev limits on ign modules
I have two ign set ups that I took off my 502 engines cause spark would go away on one module after about 3 minutes of running. These are the black modules that mercruiser calls conversion kit part #17316a2 and coil #810469. they are supposed to be merc. high perf. setups. What I would like to know is if these modules have built in rev limiters in them and what the rev limit is set at from factory. Also does any body know if these modules are repairable. I have replaced these setups with mercruisers newer distributors and coils but have to add rev limiters now which is ok. I was thinking of using one of these setups on something else. thanks for any info. Keith

Question, On the title of my post What does that envelope mean It always showes up on my threads that I start always different than everyone else's?
|
If they are TB IV's, there is no rev limiter built into the modules. On the Merc HP (blue)engines, there is a separate rev limiter for the TB IV ignitions.

Griff, The distributors are TB ign but the modules are different They are about 3 1/2"x8" black in color and the coils are large and kind of look like lawnmower coils. In the mercruiser parts book the modules are used on 94 502 465hp and list for $1000.oo And coils aren't avilable any more.It kind of looks like MSD setups. I'm just curious to know how good of a performance system they are. Thanks for any info. P.S I'm not computer smart so can anybody tell me why on my thread title the envelope before title is always different than everyone else on all my threads
