Removing Silicone

Does anyone know the best way to remove dried silicone. Its all over on this boat. Someone used alot under the swim step brackets and it squished out all over the place, what will remove it and not harm boat?

Mineral Spirits is actually what's recommended by most of the silicone manufacturers to remove it. I know because I tried doing it by hand and it's a b*tch. If you are working with gelcoat I would guess that it is fine, if not, you'll need to use something else. Good luck and I'm interested in hearing what other products might help.

3m makes a adhesive remover that works pretty well. Cut off the thick stuff and then let elbow grease do the rest. It's ok on gel too.

Prep-Sol by Dupont and the elbow grease mentioned above.
Have fun, I'm going through the same process too!

The 3m stuff works great, but its expensive. Lighter fluid works just as well. Dont smoke while doing it. LOL

You can buy GOOF in a place like Lowes Wal-Marts etc.
I've used it on my gel coat and no problems. You can get it in liquid form, gel and aerosol. The aerosol works well for average jobs that you are not worried about over spray. If not use the gel or liquid form.
Put it on and let it set a few minutes and wipe it off.
You may have to apply it again depending on how thick it is.
Good luck,
Mike

Ya, Goof Off. don't get it on any stripping if you have some on your boat.
Good luck.

Goof off worked great, and a finger nail, worked much better than mineral spirits, thanks for the help.
