I dont have alot of space on my dash and was wondering if any one had good luck with the round style depth gauge that works up to 65mph? I dont remember the brand name. Transom mount transducer or inside better? Thanks for help.

You're probably talking about the Lowrance 3500. I have that one and they claim it's good at speed. Mine was in the boat when I got it, and it gets flakey above 30 mph. It's using a through hull transducer. There is a puck stuck in the bilge, but I have yet to try it. It seemed to get better after I rerouted the wiring when I pulled the engine. I also noticed I couldn't get a bottom reading when I was up in Lake Champlain. No problem in the canals though. I'll try the other transducer this season, and possibly change the through hull one. I also added a filter on the power line. One other thing about it. When you shut it off, you lose your deep and shallow alarm settings. No memory, that's a pain.

There's a memory wire you need to hook up direct.
Boat mfrs dont do this on memory wires cause they can drain the battery and let the boat sink if there is a small leak and the pump wont come on cause the memories killed the juice. Its a liability thing. As long as you know it can eventually (two months) kill your battery, then it is ok for you to wire it hot if it bothers you about the alarms, ec. |
The memory wire (Like on the stereos), would be the obvious soloution, and that's the first thing I looked for when I found this 'Quirk" so many years ago. The unit has three wires: red, black, and white. Power (+), Ground (-), and light. No memory wire. I got the owner's manual from Lowrance, and I quote: "Note: The alarm settings are not stored in memory. If you turn the 3500 off, all alarm settings are erased. You will have to reenter the alarms each time it's turned on." Pain in the a$$! I only use the shallow alarm when I'm going into unfamiliar waters, or when I know I'm not shutting down for a while.:fish:
