Lookin for bunk carpeting

Hi folks,

It looks like it really is time to fix my poor little trailer. I need to redo the bunks and am having a difficult time finding the carpet to do it with. Boat US/ West Marine and such seem to only carry it in a may of 12' long and with a max width of 12". I think I can get by with 12" wide for covering a 2x6 but 14" would seem better. I have 16' bunks and would rather nor have a splice.

Any pointers on where to get the stuff or other alternatives will be appreciated!

Covered...

You might want to call Myco trailers, they usually carry this stuff by the roll. They are a Sponsor on this website so give them a look.

a lot of people are using the marine/outdoor carpet from home depot and lowes, same material as most trailer people use, check them out and they have several colors and material's to choose from

I redid my trailer last year with new paint and new bunks. I, too, had trouble finding carpet. I finally just used the West Marine stuff and I ended up being very satisfied with it. It does not completely cover the bottom of a 2X6 but, you can't see the gap anyway unless you crawl underneath and look. Splicing it was not a problem either. I started at the front and the splices are towards the back. Nothing you can see when the boat is on the trailer and you really have to look to see them when the boat is off. I used 9/16" stainless steel staples and an electric staple gun I bought for about 25 bucks. If you can get the right carpet from a trailer mfg. it will probably be better plus you may have more color choices than charcoal gray or black. Good luck.

Try Champion Trailers @ www.championtrailers.com They sell bunk carpet in 9", 12", 18" widths cut to any length. They also have lots of trailer related parts and specialize in mail-orders. Their entire catalogue is on their website. Steve

I bought some carpet at Home Depot and it worked well. I am thinking of switching to these plastic things. Anybody ever use them?

When I redid my trailer I just threw the carpet out. Instead I used Plasti-Vic. It's the same kind of plastic they use for the boards in arenas and comes in 4x8" sheets of whatever thickness you want.
I just counter sunk some holes in it then screwed them right to the rails. The best part about the platic is that you don't end up with moisture sitting up against your hull.
