prop nuts

should brass or stainless be used on a stainless shaft and why?

should be stainless if use brass it will cause corrosion due to being to different types of metal.

If you go with a stainless nut on a stainless shaft use plenty of lube on the threads. Ss nuts on ss threads will gall and lock up tight. Use marine grease.

Use brass... less chance of galling.... although the brass and stainless are dissimilar.... the brass doesn't react to electrolysis like aluminum or lighter metals. If you use stainless....chances are they may at some time begin to gall... then you are looking at replacing the propshaft. I had brass nylok nuts on my boat... never galled... never seized... never corroded.. and they were used almost exclusively in salt water for over 10 years.
