MerCruiser Exhaust Diverter Air Cylinders
 

I don't know how many of you are running MerCruiser exhaust diverters, but I have found a low cost replacement supplier for the pneumatic cylinders on these units. Retail from Merc is $197 each, and I can get them both for $100 through my work. Supposedly they are better than electric solenoids because they only use power to actuate, not to stay in a position like the electrics. Also, I have heard stories of the solenoids burning up on electrics. Let me know if anybody needs a set!

yeah.... I had solenoids... yeah... they burned up. finally took the whole system out.

i was reading your post and you can maybe get me a couple pneumatic exhaust diverters for a 305 5.0 mercruiser? I would like to have a set. So i can set up thru hull exhaust. Like the Captains Call or corsa. but they dont have to be stainless. cast aluminum is fine. Can you help me with a good BUY?

those cylinder should be able to be had for under $50 for the pair, its just a single acting spring return cylinder. go to www.bimba.com and type in bore size and stroke length and you can get the price right online. we use cylinders like those in the automation cells i design all the time they are very inexpensive, i cant believe merc gets $197 each that plain CRAZY!!!!

I have to answer this post even though it was from July 2011 but maybe someone will read this. I recently had a problem with my exhaust flaps not closing all the way and found that the spring in the Mercruiser air cylinder was weak. I looked online for a replacement part# 16027A1. It may have been $197 back in 2011 but it is $485.00 plus right now. WOW what a ripoff. I refuse to spend that kind of $$ on a simple air cylinder. The nerve of Mercruiser. So doing some research I came across a Parker 1.06 bore, 2" stroke, 5/16" shaft spring extend air cylinder, with a stainless steel body, the only difference was the end caps were aluminum not brass like Mercs. A little paint on the end caps will stop it from corroding. THIS IS THE AMAZING PART....$31.70 at Amazon.com I'll repeat $31.70. It is now installed on my exhaust diverter and working great. Just wanted to share this with everyone.
