540/572ci with stock 502mpi injection
has any one out there tried and been successful in building a 540 too 572 cubic inch motor with a 502 mpi fuel injection system ?
Please help it's time to make a decion on crank/rods & pistions |
I think your going to find that the injectors will be too small and the computer will have to be reprogrammed (some people are capable of doing this). I dont know about the air flow of the mpi system, but I would suspect that better systems are out there. I used a Cutler system on a 509" motor and that uses a single plain intake. Worked very well in my situation, (25' Checkmate, 690hp).
I know there are people out there with more info, but I have not heard of anyone going big inches with that setup.. Good luck Dick |
ASM would be the one's to call. They have a 540 and the computer program.

I've seen two EFI's @ 572cu inch. Both started life as 502 EFI's.The system would not, however, be stock as your question asked. The two I am familiar with had much modifcation done. Both intake manifolds were extrude honed and had larger injectors installed and were of course reprogrammed. The also had aftermarket flame arrestors. Both ran spectacularly with upgraded valvetrain, heads and exhaust. Both had very reasonable idle characteristics and tremendous torque. Was it worth the expense spent ? Both guys thought so as they both previously had 454 blower motors and were ready to get away from carbs and blowers an into fuel injected motors. Both were twin engine installs in 38ft Cigarettes.

Another guy to talk to would be Rod at Performance Marine in Wis.. He is very knowledgeable about the EFI..
Sorry I dont have his number off hand. Dick |
Lingenfelter Performance used to build 502MPI upgrades to 540 cu in 585 hp. I have three complete sets I would sell.
