cost for trailer axle?
It was a great day boating until my dumb ass clipped a curb on the way home at 20 mph and bent one of my axles. Any idea on the cost to replace an axle off a triple Pacific? I think they are 3500-4000lb axles.
Thanks. |
If you do the work yourself, it is not expensive. I replaced an axle on my Myco for well under $200.00, UPS'ed to my home. You probably have Dexter axles, as there are very few axle companies and all the trailer mfg's buy the axles for their trailers. Go to a local trailer parts house to order it, as I doubt the axle mfg will deal direct on the sale, but is very helpful on the cust. service telephone.
Take the wheels and tires off the axle, put jackstands under the frame, remove the brake hardware from each end, grind off the u bolts holding the axle to the springs, turn the axle 90 degrees and pull it out the side. Replace in reverse order. It's been a while, but I think it was that easy. This is assuming you don't have torsion axles. Then I have no clue. |
Yip, torsion axles.
thanks |
Torsion axels are even easier. There usually just u bolted to the frame. Pull the wheels and brakes, remove the u bolts and pull it out. Just go down to pacific or Trail rite in Santa Anna and buy the right length

Called Pacific on the phone, $200 for new one plus paint.
Thanks. |
Been there , done that:(.
At least I did the right side. Left side usually gets you a lot more room to the curb. One way street perhaps? |
No, just a left turn with a double turn lane. I was on the inside and the car on the outside cut it tight so I did not have a lot of room.

You can buy direct from Dexter in Commerce Ca. They are right off the 5fwy at Washington.

Got one from Pacific in chino for $139 plus $35 for them to paint. I am really happy, they had a new one ready in 1 1/2 days.
Thanks, everyone. P.S. It is a Pacific trailer |
