I run a bronze Jabsco on my boat. Bolts right in. $200 if you can find on sale. If you have the gen 5 style pump with the fuel pump drive, you might be able to buy the brass body and remaining parts from a Jabsco dealer. The plastic body pumps get scored badly by sand, and must be replaced if damaged or your new impellor will get chewed up. I bought about 10 stock pumps and parts in a package deal on e-bay for $400. 4 had good bodies , but I did get some brackets, pulleys , a gen 5 pump , etc... Why run an expensive engine with an inferior water pump? I'm very happy with the Jabsco:) BBB

Yeah B.T.W. The one piece housing totally sucks !
Try to run the one with the wear plates. Also I made gaskets out of shopping bag material. Trace out wear plates, and cut with an exacto knife. Sometimes it's hard to locate these gaskets , or the store failed to re-stock them, and they don't always come with an impellor. BBB

The best impellers were merc ones from about 1979. I got over 20 years and over 3000hrs out of the original impeller in my 1979 merc 228.......It never died, just set with less flow so the temp gauge started to wander a lot at varying rpm so I finally replaced it.

I would also run a straightened coat hanger (or some people have used a welding rod) from the top down though the hiles in your oil cooler to shove out any really stuck ruber chunks-- I power flushed my cooler after a trashed impeller-- and still got some pretty large chunks of rubber out. just a thought...

Any suggestions on getting rubber chunks out of a 500 EFI? Changed the impeller and it still runs a little warm. Since the impeller exploded and it was fine before. Could these chunks make it to the thermostat?

Merc and Quicksilver are the same thing. Just a different box and slightly different part number.
