How difficult and/or expensive is it to disasemble a 86 Alpha One
As posted in a earlier post I am getting ready to re-paint my outdrive. I am still looking for any more tips on how to do this....Question here is how hard is it to disasemble the outdrive for the first timer? Or what about cost to have one disasembleld for me with it off the boat. I really hate to have someone else do something I can do but If it is fairly inexpensive I would consider having it done for me....If not if it is not hard to do I might do it myself.....Comments anyone?

Are you talking about seperating the upper from the lower? That is a piece of cake. Or, are you talking about tearing it down, gears and all? That is a bit more difficult.

Is it broken?
Why you wanting to pull it down? |
Well I thought it might become necessary to do a good job re-painting the drive. So no it's not broke....

If your just painting it, I wouldn't mess with tearing it all down. They can be a pain without the right tools at hand, setting back you will have to adjust for shimms and clearances. I would just mask the prop shaft off and put some plugs in the oil plug holes to keep threads from getting loaded up and mask off the input shaft and u joints as well and spray away.

Hard...I think Im leaning your way. I don't see a reason to tear it apart if I don't have to
