wax or finish question
What is the best wax or refinish product to use the accually last? I have a 1987 boat that is can make look nice by waxing in but just don't last. What is there out there that works? When i get it out the spring I want to wax is once at the begining of the year and not every time i take it out.
thanks Dan |
Pretty much any wax will only last about a month on a boat.
If it fades out fast or looks chalky, then its oxidized and needs buffed out with a compound. |
Anybody use Poli glow? how long does that last?
thanks dan |
danielthelen - I use Collinite's no, 885. Can says spacifically for aeronautical and marine use. Seems to last very well for a couple of months.
There's a thread on Speedwake in the General Discussion forum with about 200 posts about waxes and polishes. Started by BillR on 1/27. Two products seem to be the main stays of the thread, Race Glaze and Frenzy. Both swear to be better than anything else. Long read, but check it out and you'll probably find something to suit your needs. Good luck - Bill |
Some people were really talking up Waxing Frienzy by Hammerhead boat works. I havn't tried it yet, but the bottle is sitting on the counter.

And when done waxing, don't use dish soap to wash it. Buy a gallon of car wash soap.

have someone wetsand the gel and then rub and wax will last,
did to my old sleekcraft yrs ago and was awsome |
I bought two bottles of Race Glaze. Still snow on the ground so no boat for now. I tried it on the hood of my tractor {truck and car were covered with salt and grime}. Came out looking like new :D

I'm going with the Race Glaze too. Here's their link http://www.raceglaze.com/welcome2.html

wax
Just remember, Race Glaze is a sealant, not a wax. They are two totally different things.
Before you consider wet sanding, try waxing first. Wet sanding should be your last resort as you are never quite sure how much gel is left on your boat. There is a great product called Aqua Buff that is very inexpensive and produces great results. I use it often in my detailing business and it has served me well. It will remove medium oxidation and leave a smooth shiny surface, ready to be waxed. Buff it on, wipe off, wash boat, and apply wax. |
