WHat brands of boats have blisters?
Good info to know ..now that we have had a couple good survey articles tell us that it's from cheap resins and using a chopper gun....

ALL brands "can" have blisters.
Typically, though, they are virtually nonexistent on any vacuum-bagged hull. One of my boats showed up with a load of blisters, and it is NOT a chopper gun boat AND has vinylester resin, not the cheap stuff. Anybody that tells you that their hull CANT get blisters is blowing smoke. Had a '67 Correct craft get blisters. Had a '72 Boston Whaler get blisters. Had a '74 Nauta Line get blisters. Had a '79 Wellcraft get blisters. Had a '89 Ebbtide get blisters. Had a '95 Sea Ray get blisters. All were boats that sat in the water long periods of time. My '91 Formula has no blisters, but it has never sat in the water more than two months. |

You'll NOT find vacuum bagging on most production boats.
Vacuum bagging is basically wrapping a freshly rolled out (still wet) hull in plastic and hooking it to a bunch of vacuum sources (while it is in the mold). This sucks the air out of the cavity and pulls the plastic down HARD on top of the laminations, pulling ALL of the air out of the voids leaving no pockets at all. Continued vacuum will start pulling excess resin out as well, leaving nothing but a densely packed bunch of glass and only the required amount of resin, with no excess resin or air pockets. This results in a lighter, denser, and stronger structure. Fountain has vac bagged for a few years. Some others as well. Most all performance specialty hulls are bagged. |

[/B According to the boat dealer that initially sold my boat new, they claim it was Vacuum Bagged. He said Baja does it on some of their specialty boats. |

If you tore out the cockpit side and had a big piece of gunwale to look at, I reckon you could find the spots where the wrinkles were in the plastic. That should make it pretty easy to tell, but just looking at a small area would be pretty tough to tell. And your bilge will have gel sprayed on from the finished side, which would cover up any telltale signs anyhow. If yours is NOT vacuum bagged, then there's nothing you can do about it! The best I can offer you is to tell you that "from here" your hull "looks" vacuum bagged to me. There. Now you can be proud! You can buy me a beer later. Wait, I'm gonna go pop one open right now. I have a 84 Formula, the only blisters I have are on my hand from pulling my wallet out for more GAS!!! But thoes are blisters of love. Summer is soon, Must work more O.T. we're at 78 cent/litre or $3.80 gal for 89oct. No sniveling, must boat...
