Audio question...

Installing a 60w x 4 amp and a head unit. I need to run patch cables between the head unit and amp for L + R and the Sub pre outs. Went to Radio Shack and got the standard 3' audio cables. Salesman tried to get me to go with the gold plated contact cables. Said it would sound better. I doubted that you could hear the difference. The standard cables were about 6 bucks per pair and the gold ones were around 13 bucks. Would not the audio quality be determined by the least best conductor in the whole schematic (taking into account various frequencies and power levels)? I don't think the amp would be full of gold contacts.

on a boat you will deffinantly not hear a difference at all on a high end home or care system you might i personaly never have been able to tell the difference and wouldnt spend the cash.

So I should'nt spring for a gold plated gas cap either?

I sort of suspected that one could not tell the difference. If anything maybe the cable used in the gold connector model is of a better quality. Thanks for the info.

oh, Im sure audiofn will have something to say. The gold contacts are the only way to go where there is corrosion in my opinion. You wont hear the difference today but they will probably last longer.

Well protected installation area and boat will be covered when not in use. Should be dry as a bone.

I also have a habit of using a di-electric grease to keep the air off of the connection which would help too. Youre probably OK. I tend to go overboard on some things.
