Bravo vs. Mirage
What's the closest Bravo 1 size to a Mirage Plus 25?
Thanx |
bravo 24

Bravo's are a little "light" on pitch. In other words, a 26P really has a theoretical pitch of about 25. However, if you are trying to decide which pitch Bravo 1 to use if a Mirage 25 is currently working well for you, I agree that a 24P is correct because you will lose some RPM's due to the extra diameter and blade surface on the Bravo 1.

My Mirage plus are labbed too. I was hoping to get a set of 26 pitch Bravo 1s and lab them to get a little extra rpm. A friend has 28's, but I think they are way too much.
|
Just curious, why do you want to switch to Bravos? You will lose speed.

I turn around 5200 RPMs with a 25 Mirage Plus and 5000 rpms with a 26 Bravo 1. Top speed difference was less than 1 mph and all around handling is MUCH BETTER with the Bravo 1.

I agree, all around the 4-blade is a superior prop except for top speed. Most people do not run balls-out all the time. I'm usually got the family, full cooler, and full tank. The 4-blade will get you better speed and range with that more realistic conditions.
If I know I want to blast around or do a poker run, I'll put the labbed Mirage's back on. |
Hey Shooter,
Depending on your drive height, Mirage +'s may give you good performance. My boat came with a Mirage + and I ran it for one season. I could not keep it hooked up in rough water. I would actually have to come off plane to get it to hook back up. The other problem I had was with a lot of chine walking. The Bravo 1 solved both problems. Dave M. |
Bajas are pretty deep when it comes to X-dim. I rarely have a blow-out problem unless I mash on the throttle from a standing start. In hard turns I have to be a little wary too, but it's the straight cruise where I saw the diffrence in the other boat.

You may want to give that a try first. |
He did my Mirage's last year... no matter how much you lab them, it's still not a 4-blade :D

A friend of mine has a '97 Baja 272 with 454 Mag / Whipple and he runs a Bravo 1. He said it was a vast improvement over the three blade. I think he was previously using a regular Mirage, not the Mirage +.

I had a Shooter (272) with a 454 Blower and ran a labbed Bravo 1. That is why I wanted to try them on the 302 with 502s.

I have test props for just this! Please feel free to call me if you need any assistance with dial inwork.

I had a 23" Mirage plus on my 24 Outlaw. Spun it to 5500rpms. It staye dhooked up pretty well, but was slow to plane. Also the boat would porpoise easily if not trimmed just right for the speed.
Tried a Bravo 1 24" and it was much faster planing and had a 4 mph better cruise speed at 3700. Spun it to 5200 rpms at wot. Also the porpoising was gone. Lost about 3 mph on the top end. Tried a 23" Rev4 and lost about 500 rpms and 6 mph. It had too much stern lift and could not carry the bow. |
