Leaky Hatch fix?

One of the rear hatches on my Formula 357 leaks. It is not the rubber seal that seals the hatch when you close it. It actually leaks around the edge of the hatch where it meets the fiberglass.

I was wondering if anyone had tried caulking around the hatch. If so, what should I use. Or, do I need to remove the hatch and reseal it in the deck. If so what should I use to seal the hatch back to the deck.

I would remove the hatch and reseal it with marine grade silicone. One thing you do not want to happen is the core in the deck to become saturated and rot. This will become quite costly to repair. Get it sealed ASAP. Don't forget all of the screw holes need to be siliconed as well.

Thanks. That's what I'll do. Any recommendations on silicone brands?

It has apparently been like this for quite some time. I am hoping there isn't rot already.

if you dont plan on taking them out ever again then i would go with the 3M 5200 fast bond. Its the red label tube.....the blue lable takes 7 days to cure and can get messy if it should rain/get wet or some one touching it! :(

cant be that fast of a bond having to wait 7 days :D :D

And be sure that you *never* want to pull those hatches - 5200 is a cast-iron ***** to remove once it sets.

Thanks guys. I can't see any reason I'd want to remove that hatch again (assuming it seals).

Any other ideas for a silicone that isn't quite so much like concrete?
