Tbolt ignition module

Guys, this thing was mounted stock flat against the riser. Did they do that for a reason, i.e. so it would feel heat? I want to mount it to the transom, is that cool?

Thanks again for the help. The tips I've gotten here far outweigh the measly membership fee I paid!

It should have 3 fiber washers between the bracket and riser. Must be non metal to prevent heat transfer.

Ok, the riser is gone, replaced by a header, that's why I need to relocate it. So I hear you say no it doesn't need/want to get hot, so the transom will be fine?

Just run a new ground from the motor to the case of the module( connect the ground from module to this too).

Merc mounts them on the riser or manifold for easy installation of the engine as one unit.

Both the ground on the module and the case must be grounded as he said. When its mounted on the riser, the case gets grounded through the connecting bolts. If the case isn't grounded you won't get any spark. I mounted mine on the transom and learned this the hard way.

griff, isn't that the stuff one NEVER forgets? Grazie for the heads up, I was going to just extend the black lead and run it back to the engine.

Thats what I did the first time.

Run the black module wire to one of the mounting bolts on the case/bracket and then run a wire from there to the engine block.
