Transom assy. gasket/o-ring
Can the seal on the transom assembly be replaced? Whats involved? Greg

Bravo and Alpha drives use a round rubber sort of "O" ring type seal that goes between the gimbal housing and the transom. There is a groove it fits into around the perimeter of the housing. TRS uses a cork gasket instead of the "O ring" seal between the housing and the transom.

do they use a glue or contact cement to hold it in place or what ? friction fit?

WHEN I REPLACED MINE I PUT A LITTLE SUPER GLUE IN A FEW SPOTS JUST TO KEEP IT IN PLACE. BE SURE EVERY THING IS CLEAN WHEN YOU ASSEM BACK ON TRANSOM. IT WILL SEAL ALL BY IT'S SELF.

I have seen a sort of rubbery type glue holding them in place at disassembly. I would think whatever holds it in place for assembly should work.

I think I read that you should use grease all the way around the O ring to hold it in place and help it seal. I'm doing mine today, and that's what I'm going to try.

Thats the info I was looking for. Thanks guys ,Cig let me know if it was a piece of cake or what. Greg

I usually put them onto the transom assembly with weatherstrip adhesive. I think that is what Merc uses also.
