Gas Tank Installation??????

I am replacing the gas tank in my Formula. I looked at the coast guard regs and it says that you can not foam them in. Every freeking boat I have ever seen has the tank foamed in. They say that you have to kind of float the tank on plastic sticks that are bonded to the bottom of the tank with 5200 so that water can not get trapped in there. What is the deal? Are all the boat manufacturers doing it wrong or am I missing something?

Mfrs all doing it wrong.

How about maybe laying a bunch of 3/8" pvc pipe pieces down and caulking them in place. That oughta leave plenty of spaces for water to run rearwards and still offer good support for the tank?

just an idea.

I used heavy duty plastic "grid" (used on restaurant floors) under the tanks and it works great. Bought it at Lowes.

I bought foam sheets from here. http://www.fibreglast.com/

I laid them on the bottom then put the tanks on top. Then foamed around them. The weld on the tank did not hold so I bought new tanks and had a glass guy put them in. I feared somehow it was my fault. He foamed them in, so are you sure your info is correct? Or maybe that applies to new construction and not repairs? Anyway, I don't think the Coast Guard is going to check, or are you concerned about insurance?
