Leaky external steering fitting
I have marine machine single ram steering. Where the 90 dregree brass fitting screws into the ram I have a leak. Is there an O ring or something to be replaced or can I use silicone, teflon tape? Also, If I unscrew the fitting is the fluid going to spray out under pressure?

It shouldn't be under any real pressure on the trailer. Most here say that you are not supposed to use teflon tape on hydraulic fittings, even though many manufacturer's instructions tell you to. I did. You could use a teflon based pipe sealing compound that can be found at any hardware store. I think that it is just a tappered pipe fitting (no O-rings).

I have a WPM single ram and it is leaking at the fitting on the ram closest to the transom also. If I tighten the fitting any more, the hydraulic line will be heading towards the boat. If this occurs, the braided line will rub against the boat. I would like to know what to do about this problem also.

I called Marine Machine and they recommened Locktite "545 Hydraulic Sealant". He did say I could use teflon tape but that the Locktite would be better.
