Gen 4,5,6 bb dist.... are they the same?

In other words, will a t-bolt IV dist work in a gen 5 or 6 motor?

454- 502?

Yes.

bolt in but I believe the gear is of dif material because of the roller cam in Gen 6

cstraub69@comcast 03-18-2004 09:42 AM

Shouldn't be, it is a cast roller core, should take a regular cast gear.

GM makes a melonized gear for there roller cams.I believe the new gm rollers are made by crane so you could probably use the crane brass gear as well.

Perhaps it shouldn't be but it is, made from a different material, melonized, comp cams used to make a composite gear that supposedly would run on either , never tried them myself tho.

distributor bodies are the same unless it is a talldeck.

Gear is the "same" as far as size and teeth, etc. But steel cams take different gears than cast cams. Some steel cams come with cast style gears on them.

Ursus,
I am familar with the melonite gear and who makes them, it is not needed on OEM hyd. rollers out of EPC, or CMC, the 2 cam suppliers, one being an X division of crane, but it can be used an is a good idea.

The composite gears will not take heavy loads, I would not recommend them in a marine application. Ampco 45 bronze gears are used on the 8620 billets. There is a new cam core, 2 piece that is available. It allows for the use of a cast gear on a billet roller camshaft. Extended gear life compared to the Ampco.
