dumb question -- what is the pad of a boat?
 
how do i know if i have one or not. what are the benefits of them?

A pad on a boat would be when the very bottom of the boat/keel is flatter than the rest of the bottom. they usually only extend forward 1/4 the lenght of the boat. as the boat increases in speed it will climb up on the pad getting more boat out of the water, which decrease drag on the boat and increases speed.
