Cruise RPM

what should i be cruising at?

I've got a 454 bored out to 468, gold roller rockers and all new internals.

I was told by the engine builder the motor was good to 5400 and i should top out at about 5200.

but what is a good safe RPM to run for 40 minutes at a time ??

thanks

Mark

75% of WOT/RPM.....5200 x .75= 3900rpm

A lot depends on your ability to control heat output of your engines and outdrives. If you have drive showers, and your water temps are steady below 160, and your oil temps are steady below 230, I dont see any problems running 4500 or more in a poker run.

I try to keep my cruise RPMs below 3800 rpms, where the secondaries open up and start sucking down the gas. On a fuel injected motor this is different of course.

Listen to your motors, they tell you where they are happy cruising at. For me that is 3600 rpms where the engines sound like they aren't laboring or getting into the powerband.

Just my opinion.
