Mercruiser BB Thermostat Housing conversion?

Motor: Mercruiser 330/454, raw-water cooled (standard cooling), TRS.

I'm converting from log-style manifolds to center rise. Now that I'll only be using two hoses per side (manifold/riser), my existing thermostat housing has four extra water outlets. Can I block-off the unused outlets or must I upgrade to the new-style thermostat housing?

Thanks in advance,

Block off the riser water ports and use bottom ports in manifolds for the water to exit. You use the boat in warm water, so I'd use riser gasket# 27-863726 (if your using Merc manifolds). Use 140 thermostat and drill 2 3/16 holes in thermostat flange.

OK. That set-up uses only one hose per side, so now I'll have six unused outlets on the thermostat housing to deal with. Do I just cap them off?

Not sure if the V-6 one is the same as V-8, but you get the idea!!!

No, not the same. Yes, I can purchase the correct housing for $150, but then I have to drill/tap to move the intake to the correct side. Much easier to cap-off existing outlets, if that is allowable.

Anyone?
