trim up, no trim down

Just pulled the boat out to change all fluids to full syn. Trims up, no downski. Buddy says replace down solenoid(green wire) with a Ford starter solenoid...thoughts?

Chech the trim switch on the throttle. I've had them work one way and not the other. Otherwise check into the trim sender switch on the side of the outdrive.

Check the fuse on top of the solenoid before you change the solenoid. Then jump the solenoid to make sure it's the problem.

I don't know what dif, besides price, there is betwqeen marine and automotive.

If the pump motor itself is not running, (I assume this is the case if you are talking about solenoids) have someone hold the "down" button while you tap the solenoid, but not hard enough to break the plastic. Sometimes they hang-up after setting all winter and once you jar 'em awake they keep right on working. --- Jer

Got a voltmeter or test light?
Hit down on the trim switch, check to see that the solenoid is getting power (usually the small green wire).
If no power, check your trim switch or connections.
If yes, see if power is going through the solenoid. See if the large red wire is hot. When the down button is pushed, the large green wire should be hot. If not, check the connections or replace the solenoid.
If voltage goes through the solenoid to the motor and it doesnt run, replace the motor.

What jpclear says, I have to every season

Well it seems that if the pump was gone it wouldnt go up either...???

Fluids low as heck too, same buddy said Dextron. True?

KH0302
The pump has 2 sets of windings (3 terminals). They dont just change the polarity. One set of windings can burn out while the other still works. At least that's the way I understand it (where's mcollinstn when you need him?)
