Towing about 9600 lbs. Need your advice!
 

Help! I own a 2000 312 Formula 8050 lbs. Tripple axle trailer. Should total about 9600 to 10,000 wet. Here is my problem. Wife won't go the pickup truck route, sooooo.... Anyone pulled this kind of weight with a Suburban,Excursion or Tahoe? Can it be done safely? We will tow it on the longest trip about 5 hours. I have pulled with a pickup for may years but not
an suv.

Please let the OSO GODS enlighten me with their wisdom! :confused:

I used to tow about that same weight with 2500HD Suburban (Rated for 8500). The truck I have now F350 dually was significantly better. I would never suggest it unless it was for REAL short hauls. Hands down the truck is better equipped to haul this type of weight.

We plan to tow our new 36 Outlaw with our V-10 Excursion. I met a guy in Florida pulling a 42 Sonic with a V-8 Excursion. The excursion is basically a F250 super duty.

I have a buddy that pulled his 42 Fountain with a Ford F-250. Total weight of boat and trailer was over 13,000 pounds.

I have never been a Ford guy, but the Excursion impresses me and is my wifes daily driver. She loves it.

The Excursion comes in diesel. Or buy a crewcab pick up. Plenty of room. If need be put a cap on the bed.

I have been using a Tahoe 1500 for three years to tow a Formula 303 which is about the same weight.I did order it with the 3.70 gears.Have had no problems.

I was just on the web pricing a 2500 4wd LT Suburan. Man what a price 45K :eek: Does have an 8.1 L and 3.73 rear end.

How does your Tahoe 1500 do over the road? Say at 70 MPH when that 18 wheelers goes by. We also have some steep ramps to work with.

I had a 2000 F350 Dually Crew Cab V-10 and an older (88) Suburban- got rid of both for an Excursion with the Power Stroke.
Get an X- you'll love it!

I used a 2500 4x4 suburban 454 410 gears to tow a 42 fountain. My trip was about 3 1/2 hours each way every weekend. Believe or not the tires make a BIG difference. :)

I would not try the Tahoe with that kind of weight. I have towed my 8,000lb Donzi with one and would recommend it for only short distances. I rented an f350 dually V-10 to bring it home over the mountains. I was not overly impressed with the dually until I got home and tried my Tahoe. Huge differnce!

My wife has a 02 Tahoe, steering is so quick and wheelbase so short I would not want to pull 10000 pounds with it, not even short trips. I tow with 02 HD2500 double cab short bed 4wd Duramax it is my daily driver and gets 17 in city and 21 hwy.
