Leaking riser?

Hi everyone, i have stainless marine exaust with the risers, i just redone the heads and when the mechanic put everything together I run the motor on the trailer and I notice that one of the risers was leaking a little water from where it conects to the manifold, is there water passing through there? i thought it was just exaust in that section, obviously if not water there then its a cracked riser. Any help would be appreciate it.

I had this happen on my last boat, I took my risers off an had them checked, I have heard that they can be a little warped or just not perfectly flat, Have them checked to see if they are true, just my .02.

good luck

Depending on your set-up, water may or may not pass through the joint. Did your mechanic install a new riser-to-manifold gasket? Did he utilize the correct gasket? Does he know what he's doing?

I would replace the gasket and see if the leaking stops.

There are very few mechanics who are top-notch and detail oriented. After suffering from a leaking riser (allegedly repaired by a certified Mercruiser mechanic), I discovered he used the wrong gasket and, to compensate, loaded up the joint with red goop.

thanks for the replies.
The guy told me that i need it gasket, but it seems that there is no water in there even if the gasket is bad there should be leaking exaust and not water. I dont think he is as good as he says, but then again im not an expert thats why im here trying to figure this out. Here is a picture of the exaust and riser, i wish i could of looked inside when they were out. The reason im trying to figure this out is to make sure he doesnt put a gasket and stop the leaking to the outside but it leaks into my motor and then ill be an angry man.

If the pieces (manifold and riser/tail) are sound then you have a leaky connection and a reversion situation. Keep checking cause you don't want the reversion thing. --- Jer
