ss windshield 382 fastech

Has anyone changed a windshield on a Formula 382? I am interested in a stainless steel one, preferably used. If it's to much trouble or unreasonable, I'll keep what I have.

dukenrock,

Just saw your post. In the process of replacing the faring on my '99 Poker Run Special with a SS windshield I found used here on OSO. Not too difficult to do but I was told by technical assistance @ Formula that a new one would cost over $16,000.

I have a 96' 382 - took a wave over the bow and shattered windshield - not pretty - billion pcs of glass everywhere - purchased new glass (1/2 section) $ 2,800.00 - tried to put it in and it broke - Had the formula dealer finish the mess I made - Talk to someone who has done this before going ahead with the project - also the lower frame bolts must be accessed through the cabin headliner -

jamess4,

Must have stuffed her pretty hard!?! Did your insurance cover the loss?

I was told by Formula Technical Assistance that the windshields are attached with screws, not through-bolted. This was the case with the fairing on my '99. I intend to through-bolt all areas where I can get to, then screw the rest (literally).

If you don't mind me asking, and so I don't do the same, how did you break the replacement glass?

The second window broke taking it out of the crate with two guys lifting tenderly - lifted it 2 feet of the ground and it shattered - just had it air freighted in the day before $ 800.00 FeEx cost

The fit of the glass into the frame is very tight - touch the edge of the new glass and your done - The side glass frame had to be loosened

The day was nice - going through an inlet and one wave stood up - I was wearing sunglasses - that saved my ass - no shirt - 1 million pcs of glass stuck in me - and 1 million more stuck in the seats and I was barefoot - one more million pcs on the floor - not pretty -
