Looking for pump to change oil
Does anyone know of a good pump to hook up to the dipstick so I can change the oil, and where to get it?
|
I tried the Jabsco hand-pump and it was a mess. I'm going to try the drill-pump next. I believe they're sold at West Marine.
Not sure about the pump that threads in to the dipstick. I don't have that option. D. Ocean Pompano Beach, FLA |

Tried the drill pump. They burn up easily. Tried the hand-pump. Too slow.
Now I use the Marina Pro pump with resevoir. It works great. Just pump it about 10-20 times, and walk away. When you come back, you may have to pump it a few more times to finish off, but that's it. It's the only pump I found that holds 8 quarts. The best price I've found is $45.99 at www.cabelas.com. I've seen it as high as $60 elsewhere. |
I just use the Merc hand pump. Doesn't take that many pumps to empty the oil when hot. Lot less hassle and more compact.

I made my own set up.
Used a 12v pump from Grainger, and an empty 5gal. pail with a lid that seals well. I mounted the pump to the lid with sheetmetal screws and discharged the pump thruogh the lid. Just make sure the pail is vented or you'll blow the lid off. Use the largest inside diameter suction hose you can find, warm up the oil and in less than 2 min. pan will be empty:D |
I gave up on the small 12 volts always made a mess.
I to was going to make one similar to sonic30 but needed one that night. A friend had the pump style from west marine I tried. It worked great and quick with no mess. A few pumps and it siphons on its own. I believe it is tempo brand but I know it was 50.00. Good luck |
Stormrider, i thought about getting one of them but i end up buying a fram plug from walmart for 15 bucks. You screw it to the oil pan and when you need to change the oil you screw the other piece which open the valve and the oil comes out with no mess whatsoever, just put the hose out the tramson and your done, leave for a few minutes and unscrew the piece off and your done. not a drop in your bilge. Just a thought

Tempo Oil Boy
This one works great, screws on to dipstick tube. The only problem is 5 quart capacity so you will most likely have to dump it once then finish up. Definately warm the oil up a bit as mentioned before. Makes it much faster. |
