Amsoil 75/90 in the drive
My Skater bud swears by the stuff, I refilled my drive with it last weekend. Anyone have experience with it? Or does anyone have comments on other drive lubes?

Do a search on this forum for "drive + lube/oil". Then, get yourself a cup of coffee because it's gonna be a long read!
And...when your finished reading all the posts, your question will still remain unanswered, but you'll be a walking encyclopedia on the subject. D. Ocean Pompano Beach, FLA |
Oh boy here we go...:D

The Amsoil reeks pretty bad too, but no foaming. Skater bud Mike's running it in his drives on 300s, running 115.
|
I use redline and the foaming is a pain but, I had to replace a leaking seal in one of my outdrives this winter and what I noticed was the oil was still stuck to everything aftersetting empty for a couple of months. I do not know if all oils do this but redline did.

KHO302,
I use the series 2000 75w-90 race proven gear lube , also use the series 2000 20w-50 severe service racing oil, I change oil every 25-30 hrs. have had zero problem's with either product. |
I think Merc HI-Perf has better additives that will work better with any condensation/water that gets in there. If you are changing all the time then it less relevant.
|
I use the Merc blue/green stuff!

I ran Amsoil for 1 year in my drive. My drive grenaded at the end of the year....and i am not hard on my equipment. i was cruising along at 3500 for 30 minutes, and BANG.
Was this a result of Amsoil? who knows. I then bought a Teague drive off of Treadwell. it was a spare for his F2 formula. He told me that they tried every oil imaginable including the Amsoil. He said that the Amsoil is a "faster" oil, but the drives wouldn't hold up. He recommended Redline Shockproof. You will probably hear 100 different opinions. |
I have been running the Amsoil GL-4 in my last two boats over a four year period, both boats had twin 454's with TRS drives.....haven't had any problems or rebuilds yet....my .02.....Fred
