Finally got it started now it knocks
OK I finally got the boat to start doing a whole tune-up (cap rotor wires and plugs) I haven't changed the oil yet so that is what I will do next prefferably synthetic!! what weight should I use for an 89 350 magnum!!
Ok the problem now that I got it started its knocking or tapping I am not sure yet I didn't want to run it with the old oil in it! But It hasn't run since September? any ideas or things to check out? |
Could be a bunch of things.
Collapsed lifter is likely after sitting that long. Be sure your wires are on in the proper firing order. There's three knocks. Taps (from the upper end). Taps (from the lower end). Clunks (from the lower end). They are all a different degree of bad. |
Riser gaskets leaked. May have hung an exhaust valve.
|
Bummer:confused:
|
I didn't think you would know based on my limited information! I am going to change the oil today or then next day! What should I use?
|
Synthetic will clean your engine and could make older engines clunk or tap...... Its thinner... Maybe worth it to clean things out, but you will most likely go back to dino......
|
what is back to dino? I don't mean to sound like a rookie!!
|
"Dino" refers to regular oil, the natural type, non-synthetic.
As in crude oil, which comes from the decayed remains of dinosaurs (dino), trees, plants, etc. |
SOUNDS LIKE MY LUCK DON'T YOU JUST LOVE BOATING. IT'S LIKE KIDS IT CAN BE SO UNREWARDING :(
|
How long did you let it run? Long enough for it to build pressure. everything will be bone dry but the pan since it sat for that long.
Wildthing taz I know what your talking about with the luck 3 froze brokes thanks to detailers:mad: :( |
