Flame arrestor on procharger

Has anyone removed the f/a on a 502 mag when running a procharger? The intercooler keeps debris from entering. Any performance/restriction gains? Take it out or leave it? Thanks for the input.

The double screen over the blower mouth IS the flame arrestor.

Are you asking whether you are supposed to keep the flame arrestor on top of the carb? Heavens NO.

My M3 is not on yet but the flame arrestor on most boats has no filtering abilities(not much anyway)and all the newer stuff I've seen says you only need one if you're worried about the Coasties. Not much dust or grit in the air back there and a bug or two will just get recycled back to the earth it came from. Use the screen of course to prevent large items(cushions, ropes from getting sucked in if they pass by.Not much restriction though from a large arrestor if you have room.

Last year while testing our M1 Procharged 454 Mag at the Nickerson Performance dyno, the motor seemed kind of flat. we removed the flame arrestor (on the carb inside of the box) and we found 75 more hp!!!!!

Yup, the flame arrestor cost us 75 hp

Wanna get a bunch more hp? Check out the R-tech Supercooler!

Good luck,

Kurt

thanks. by the way it's a mpi motor with a throttle body, not carb.

Answer is still no. You shouldn't run it.

Boats don't run "air filters" unless they are diesels. The only reason they are on motors is to stop a flame from coming out in the event of a backfire.

A friend of mine just had Total Marine in La. put on a pro charger and it has a New design that looks like a velocity stack with a large wire type screen in it . It clamped straight up to the blower . Not restrictive at all.

my boat with a carbed hp 500 didnt have one when i bought it.so i called procharger and they sent me a little gold anodized arrester and the plugs started loading up with it on so off it came.i could have jetted down and made less hp but i just took it off.
