Setting Valves on SBC

1 Attachment(s)
I have heard a few things about this and I am trying to figure out which way to do this. I have hydrolic roller lifters and extruded aluminum rockers. I plan to tighten the nut until I feel drag on the pushrod then give it 3/4 turn and then set the lock. Is this the right procedure?

1/2 TURN AFTER DRAG ON PUSHROD WILL DO IT:D

Tighten the poly until you feel resistance turning pushrod with your fingers. Tighten the nut 1/2 turn to preload the lifter. Back the nut off 1 flat. Make sure your set screw is snug. Advance your nut and set screw with wrench and allen together the one flat you backed off. They are set and will not back off.

3/4 turn is a bit much unless you are keeping it under 4000 RPM. Everyone says half and this is correct before and during cam break-in.

If you are using excelent quality rockers and locks I always go 1/4 turn after cam break-in. Such adjustments should be made the right way with engine running using a special valve cover that has cut-outs.

With engine running back off the rocker just enough till it begins to tap, tighten just until the tap goes away, then 1/4 of a turn more. Do all 8 this way
