Alpha limits ?
What is your opinion on the RPM limits of an Aalpha Gen II. I plan on running it in the 5000-5200 range with an auxiliary reservoir and a drive shower. I know this question is relative to driving habits, lets just say for arguments sake conservative.

The RPM range isn't the problem, engine torgue @ boat weight are what you need to know
|
Hmmmm ? Well the boat weight is approx 2000 lbs and the tourqe is an unknown at this point. I can tell you it's a SBC making about 325 HP.

I think you will be fine, Avoid holeshots @ such @ change fluid often {50 hrs.}I ran twin sb. 350 hp with alphas in 8000 lb boat over 600 hrs never a problem. I also ran the Merc. Bravo fluid.

i runa BBC 330hp with an alpha and its been fine for around 400 hours. I have the 1.32 gears and they hols up better than the smaller ratios

My dad's boat is a Baja 196 Sunsport with an 11:1, roller cammed, 355 small block with 125 horse nitrous kit. We run an alpha ss outdrive and have had no trouble as of yet. The drive has been on the boat since 1993. Naturally aspirated it turns a 26" 3 blade spinelli prop 6000 rpm. On the bottle bumps it up to 6500 rpm. This boat weighs about 2500 lbs. The lake we run on is calm and the drive never leaves the water. The three blade prop is pretty forgiving also.

I am building a 400hp + 383 for my 18.5 ft 3000 lb powerplay. With a drive shower I am Not to worried. A buddie has a 210 sport baja with a 365hp big block and he beats the **** outta it for the last 6 years, no problem yet..

Stick with three blade props and rubber hub only. I have seen some running to 5800 with 400 bbc with few problems.

I've run my Alphas without problems on built SBC power- drive showers, external reservoirs, and RedLine ShockProof Heavy gear lube. I agree on the 3-blades- don't use Bravo1 props, although I know some guys who have run the Rev4 without any outdrive issues.
