How do I get the motor in?!

Ok,.. So I have the beastly small block all together and ready to go IN the boat. WOOHOO. But how the heck am I going to get this thing in there? I have nothing in the garage to hang it from and no friends with garages or anything similar. Suggestions appreciated!

Talking about putting the horse before the cart:eek: I would say its time to do some carpentry work! Or you might want to look into buying/renting a hoist. You would need to measure the height needed first to make sure you can clear the transom. Or you might need to assemble it in the boat :D
Good luck...

Sounds like it's time to make some new friends.

do you have a swing set in the back yard that can hold about 600 lbs?

BadDog 04-13-2004 05:17 PM

Forklift, tow truck, oak tree, it just looks heavy. Local Fire Departments often have trucks with a boom crane on them. We have one that will lift a pair of BBC and put them about 10' in the air.

How did you get it out?

Lsky5101982 04-13-2004 05:29 PM

Ok what you do is flip the engine over..... then pick up the boat.... flip it over put it on the engine.... put your kid under there to attach the bolts...(think saftey.... ut a helmet on the kid)...... then simply turn the boat back over

We're gonna hire a wrecker truck fro a few hours--$50 and a few beers (or wacky weed) and it's done.

You can rent a lift or an a-frame. Instead of attempting this in the garage (w/limited overhead), I'd move the boat in the driveway. Lift the motor then roll the boat under it and lower away. If the boat is not on a trailer, then you might need to put it on one for this phase.

I did the "swing set " thing. As a matter of fact , if you look real close you can see it in my avitar

Have done the tall oak tree many of times. I believe after many years of evolution, they were intended to evolve into engine pulling trees.

LOL :D I borrow a hilo..always wanted to build a giant cherry picker..

Formula78 04-14-2004 12:11 PM

Well,.. It looks like the wrecker may win out on this. Unless anyone in Austin/Central Texas has a big tree they want to lend me use of. It's a nobel cause I promise. Free rides in the grossly over powered 20' Formula :).

The swing set is amazing. I give you an A+. I like that kind of thinking. But the one about flipping the boat made me laugh. very funny.

Just build a crane. They don't cost a whole lot, and will pay for itself in no time. You'll end up finding lots of uses for it.
