BBC Fuel pump clearance...has this happened to you?

I replaced the automotive type fuel pump (Carter) on my 454 with an AC/DELCO marine fuel pump. The mounting flange on the old pump was 1/2" ~ 5/8" thick and allowed the pump to sit away from the block. The flange on the new pump is about 1/4" thick and, after mounting with shorter bolts, hits the brass plug that allows access to the fuel pump drive rod. This lack of clearance won't allow me to fully tighten the pump and an oil leak has occured.

Is there a different type plug to be used in this situation?

Note: This is the fuel pump that is stand-alone from the raw-water pump.

Thanks in advance,

What do you have now for a plug? Square head sticking out. If so use a flush mount plug. (allen or square hole)

Yes, the previous owner installed a brass plug with a head on it. I'll try a matching-size allen plug.

Picked one up today from BAM. They didn't charge me for it. Good guys.

Thanks all,
