Kodiak brakes...
quick question...I just purchased a set a Kodiak disc brakes and wondered if it make a difference which axle they go on? (tandem axles). The guys at Kodiak say it doesn't really matter.

I would go fronts. The reason I would go front is the weight transfers forward as you stop. This will put more preasure on the front axle... In theory anyhow.

I had an EAGLE trailer that I switched to Disk. They were on the rear axle from the factory. I left them there.
NICE KIT !!!!!!!!! |
Most Tandems I have seen have the brakes on the back. Look at the way the pivot points work between the axles. Some designs may get into a bind if the front axle were braking.

I bought a brand new Slide-On trailer from them (they are local to me) and they put the brakes on the from axle. I think it a weight transfer thing. My trailer has torsion springs though so the front and rear axle are independant. I would go with front if torsion and rear if leaf springs. my .02$.

I've always had them on the front axle if only singles. Now lets think about it for a minute...put them on the rear with leaf springs and your pulling on floppy shackles on the front of the rear spring that's attached to the equalizer:rolleyes:. Torsion axles shouldn't make any difference , except for the weight shift theory.

Thank everyone...
appreciate the feedback...I'll check for any binding and will probably end up flipping a coin.

Jon Think it as a Semi combo. do you wan´t the trailer to follow as straight as possible when braking, if yes, rears. |
