Merc Trans Drive Plate
1 Attachment(s)
So I need to replace the drive plate for my Merc trans.
My boat was originally a small block boat so i don't know if I'm trying to track down one for a small block or a big block. My flywheel was drilled just for the plate and three 3/8-16 bolts were holding it on. Since it cracked, i gotta figure that wasn't right. I have attached a photo. It's 6-1/8" from the center to the outer edge, so if was round it would be 12-1/4" Which one is this? Big Block or small Block? |
That would be the small Block version. The one plate that I have is Round . It attaches with 6 bolts.

Mine also is round.

I guess I have the wrong ones. (which would explain the break)
What does the one I need look like? |
Instead of the plate being cut in a triangle shape. The sheetmetal part is a full circle. Are you sure that you have a Merc 2 trans? What is the diameter of the input shaft for the trans? I have seen drive plates for Borg Warner Transmission's that are triangle shaped is why I am asking.

You are not the first person to ask me that. When my buddy pieced it back together (after his engines were stolen) he doesn't remember what plates went in. The flywheels were drilled to fit the plates.
I want to make this correct. I had no idea that that plate was cracked until I unbolted the trans. I am absolutly sure that I have the merc transmissions as I have rebuilt both of them. They look like this one: |
I have a big block in front of my Merctrans, my plate is round...

merc trans input shaft is approx. 0.950"OD
18 splines What is the input shaft for the BW trans? Thanks DS |
Dan,
I've got two B/W drive plates that came off the original 454/330's, you can have them if you want/need them. They appear to be ingreat shape, no cracks or broken springs. I upgraded to new BAM 800# plates for the new engines, so I don't need the stock ones anymore. Monty |
Monty,
That would be greatly appreciated. How's the Mistress coming along? Are you close to splashing? Haven't seen you post in a while. DS |
