hp500 shift bracket?????
hey guys i hope you can help me. i have a carbed 1999 hp500 that i purchased, that was missing some of the brackets on it. i have it all back together except i can not figure out where the new shift bracket goes. its a black plate with a small flanged 90 with two mounting holes. help????????

i forgot to mention that it has cmi etop headers on it. thanks again

I have seen those brackets mounted to the transom on some boats, usually mounts to the stbd exhaust, but you probably dont have any mounting holes on the cmi's, so I'd mount on the transom if possible.
|
I think that bracket is used when you have the older style gil exhaust. Sounds like the same bracket I have..
My friend has the CMI's, and they have a welded on plate that you mount the shift bracket right to. Doesn't your CMI's have the plate? |
I mounted mine on the transom tucked up high and out of the way. You don't even see it unless you go looking for it! Keep the motor looking less cluttered.
|
My bracket is bolted to my CMI's . Check your headers, on the Port side. There should be three welded tits that you can screw a bolt into for the bracket.
|
That is an option that you have to order with CMI's.
IF you don't have it, just mount it on the transom. Is this what you have???? Steel plate with a 90* bend and radiused on the bottom??? If so it's for the Gils. Just get rid of the plate and mount the shift bracket to the transom with 3 SS screws. |
thanks guys for all your info. the bracket i have is for the old style gil manifolds. i think i'll mount it on the transome, out of the way. just putting the finishing touches on the hp500 i stuck in my 22' scarab. it's looking real good. thanks again, jeff
