35' mistress props??

We've got a 35' mistress with TRS and 572's, and wondering what props we should be looking at running??

Hp peak 650 @ 5300 rpms
tq peak 690 @ 4500 rpms

Any ideas on style, # of blades, and pitch we should be running?? Anything that will cross over for cruise and top end speed. Any ideas on top speed.

Thanks in advance.

I would try a set of Bravo-one four blds, pitch I would go with a 24 and then try a set of 26's if you can this would be a great starting point.give me a call and I can give you some more info, I need weight and alot more info you may have .Darin

I've also got a 35' Mistress. I built a pair of new Dart 540's this winter that made ~690hp @ 5700rpm, and ~670 tq @ 4600 rpm. The boat initially had 330hp 454's with 21p Mirages.

Throttle Up recommended 23p Mirage Plus 3-blade props. They estimated a top end of ~73-74 mph. I prefer 3 blade props on TRS's behind higher power engines due to the reduced load on the drive if/when you go in and out of the water.

Doug1 had Hydromotive 25p's on his 35' Mistress behind 590hp/632tq engines and he said he saw 70.3 mph GPS.

I have a 35 mistress 650 hp had bravo one 24 pitch swithced to hydromotive lot less porpoising. Picks whole
boat out of the water and flattens it out. Little harder to
get on plane.

Bad to the bone--- what kind of top speeds are you seeing??

Monty--- Have you run the 540's yet??

Monty 05-05-2004 01:20 PM

del sol,

Haven't run the 540's yet except on the dyno; first run will be either this weekend or next. I'm taking Friday off to finish plumbing the engine flush system and install the exhaust. If everything goes straightforward, I'm planning to take it out for the first time this Saturday. Otherwise next weekend.

top speed to date is 74 at 5400 rpm. level as can be.

We had seen 76 mph last year with what turned out to be a couple of broken valve springs, that was with 26 pitch 4 blade cleavers @ 5300 rpm.
Hoping to see a few more now that the heads are back in one piece.
The way these things eat up waves, and the attitude they flatten out at is impressive:D

ACCLERATORS

You could posssibly run some ACCLERATORS in the 3 bld Mirage plus converted to 24's for all out top -end.

Del Sol,

What's up with the hp and tq numbers? Did they stop the dyno run at 5300? The tq and hp are too close, only 800 rpm spread between the two.

Since the TRS drives are mounted low in the water the Mirage plus' work well with those drives. With the size and weight of your boat it would be best to maintain the full diameter and blade area of the props. If you are more interested in cruise speed the Bravo 1 and Hydro Quad IV are options as well depending on the attitude of the boat.

I have a 1976 Cig awesome running 420hp 454's with SMI exhaust, the original BW trans & trs drives. The drives do have nose cones on them. The props are marked 21p Mirage plus. The previous owner said that he had the props "shaved"? It will run around 58mph top end at about 5300 rpm. It seems to me that it should go faster on top,it does accelerate pretty quickly. Can anyone tell me which props they have used or would suggest? Its 35' like the mistress but with the raised deck no idea on weight.

I think you should try a set of props to lower the rpm and see what happens. Since your props have been worked it may be worth a try to test a set of 21 Mirage plus or 23 Mirage plus. It may get your WOT rpm around 4900-5000. Then you can see what speed you get. If the speed increases the motors have more power at that rpm, if the speed decreases then the motors make less power. Its like a dyno on the water.

If you have dyno runs on the motors then that would make it very easy to know what rpm the motors should run at.

Thanks I will try that ,have very few hrs on the boat since I've had it. I do have a brand new (in 1976)set of Mirage 21's that came when the boat was new & are still bolted up inside the bow. I will try them first & check rpm the motors feel like they could pull more.
