fuel water seperators?

what is a good quality water seperator to use? they will be used on a 454 gas engines.
can these seperators be used in series with the stock seperators or will the flow be reduced too much. thanks in advance

Why would you want to run a second one???

The stock water sep filters work fine. I've had h2o in my fuel and the filter was full of water.

Hey Griff,

Why a second filter ?

I run a second filter inline because I have EFI's with VST tanks and the standard Merc or anyone water seperator/fuel filter from Merc is rated at 70 Microns. That's not nearly fine enough to really protect the VST screen. I had, as have numerous OSO members, many problems with clogged VST screens. No more. I use a RACOR after my Merc filter and have experienced no problems in over 250 hrs. The standard Merc filter will not eliminate debris capable of sticking a needle in a Holley carb.

It's not unreasonable to run two filters. Most probably will not need it. But, some may benefit from two.

I use the fram HP filter separator and it works great, nice drain plug on the bottom to eliminate the water and they come in both 8 and 11 inches, so depending on your fuel consumption requirements you are covered.

I can see running a second filter to filter out smaller particles than the merc one, just don't see the purpose of running a second water sep filter.

So which fuel filter/water seperator is the best? Which one has the highest ratings? I really don't want to put an inline filter also on the boat if I don't have too. If I can get a 2/for 1 job I rather do that...You mention Fram what are it's ratings?

FRAM is a powerful marketing company. RACOR is probably the most widely accepted professional filter system for your boat.

I use RACOR with the metal bottom. They are available at most marine supply stores. Boaters World, etc.

Good luck.
