stripped screws?

Anyone have any tricks of the trade in removing stripped screws. The head is not stripped but it will just turn and turn without catching. The screws are on a deck hatch hinge. Thanks

Can you get to the underside of it ?

if so have someone put some pressure on the bottom of the screw as you are loosening it.

I would think that a deck hatch hinge would be through bolted. Are you sure there is not a nut on the back that is spinning with it ?

If all else fails, drill them out and go back with bigger screws and 3m 5200 bonding sealant, that is if it isn't through bolted of coarse.

it is through bolted but you can't reach the spinning bolt cause the bolt is in the hole so to say.. I would imagine you would have to drill around it just to get a wrench on it. Either way, looks like i will have to do a little glasswork to it when I am finished removing the screw and hatch.

Thanks but at this point the caveman comes out. ;)

Try turning the screw with a cordless drill. Turn it real slow with very light pressure. Now try to get under the head with a flat bladed screw driver and lift up.

Have someone hold the bolt from the bottom with a pair of pliers while you drill it out from the top. During reassembly use a washer to keep the nut from digging into the glass.
