i'd stick witaht 3 blade it will slip more thana 4 or 5 blade, itmight not be as fast as 4 blader but the additional slip should be easier on the drive

I know I need to change the gear in the drive, but it really isn't in the budget. Actually even new props aren't in the budget. The test prop was borrowed from a friend.

How much is "cheap" for the quicksilver? I'm looking for a good deal on a used prop, but was trying to get an idea of what to look for with this thread.

I stll need to finish the interior on the boat too. As of now it only has 2 seats and the skeleton of a bench in the back. Very trashy looking, but at least it sounds good and has good power.

Darin, I was in Houston this weekend and thought about coming by your shop for advise, but had no baseline. Plus was curious what your place looked lke with all the good work you do. I ran out of time though. I do my engine work close by over around Jones and 1960 area.

In the long run your going to pay anyway. Trade or sell that "Alpha" and prop BEFORE you break it! It's worthh a whole lot more in working order. If you break it your at a TOTAL loss. Swap in a "Bravo" with a 24" three blade and you should be right in the ball park at about 5000 rpm, WOT. If the motor is 'mild', as you say,it might come in a little lower than the 5000 rpm. Was this a marine engine to begin with? A broken crank or a wild rod cap can put holes where you don't want them!
Like Rambunctious said,these motors won't hold up in a boat like in a race car,unless it's been built with the right parts.
