Jesel Shaft Mounted Rocker Arms
 

Anyone have experience with these. Looking at the sportsman series.

Last year my recently rebuilt blower motor broke (3) pushrod guide plates. Engine builder didn't have an answer on why or the cause. I replaced them all with Comp Cams guide plates, but several didn't fit my Dart Heads that well and had to modified. In my opinion this is the weak link in my motor.

I am considering the Jesel set up when I pull the motor for install in a new boat. What is your opinion of the shaft mounted rocker arms? Do the heads need to be machined? The Jesel Website isn't real clear on this.

What could have caused (3) guide plates to break?

I have been using the Competition Series, which is close to the Sportsman I believe and have had excellent service. I pull them in the winter and drop them off at Jesel. They go thru them and clean and re bag for a nominal fee and back on they go. On my second season with them. Ran the other Jesels on Big Chiefs for three seasons and they also worked well.

The shop that does my machine work has nothing but good to say about them.

I agree as well. While I have never used them on a marine motor, I have used them on car motors. I have never experienced a failure with them. When I go over my motor this winter, I will be installing Jesels for sure. The only modification that I know for my Gen. 6 heads would be to drill out the 3/8" rocker arm stud holes to 7/16".

I also have Gen 6 heads. So I do need to pull the heads and drill the rocker stud holes?

By using the Jesel shaft rockers do I eliminate the push rod guide plates?

My understanding is you no longer need the guide plates because of the design. :eureka:

i am running the t&ds i like them better they are stronger and seem to fit better and they are good people to work with

We Use T&d On The Race Engines And Have Had Great Luck With Them

Were you forced to change your rocker studs from 3/8" to 7/16"

As far as I know, Jesel only makes 7/16 stud rockers. So, you would have to drill the heads. I would not attempt this with the heads on the motor. In my opinion, this should be done by a qualified machinist on, I would guess, a bridgeport. You'll never get the holes drilled straight with a hand drill.
